With the increasing use of DESfire™ cards by universities, Burall InfoSmart
have registered 16 Application Identifiers (AIDs) with NXP specifically for
UK campus schemes.
The use of these AIDs ensures that applications such as student registration,
access control, cashless catering, print & copy control, library and leisure
schemes etc. can be allocated unique identifiers, guaranteeing safe interoperability.
It means that a scheme operator can independently and securely access their own
application within the DESfire™ card, safe in the knowledge that the AID used to
select it is not being used by any other application. A cashless catering system
supplier, for example, could use the same AID for different HEI’s, minimising software
development, and an HEI can reserve an AID for all its own student record applications
(registration, examination, voting etc.) knowing that no other HEI or application uses
the same AID.
Six UK universities are now using registered unique AIDs to ensure safe operation of their
schemes and any HEI or campus application provider may request Buralls to allocate one or
more for their own scheme, totally free of charge.
Burall InfoSmart can also advise on standard encoding for campus schemes on DESfire™
cards, including co-locating LASSeO profiles and SNAPI encoding plus certified ITSO encoding
and legacy transport applications.
