How the InfoCare System Works
Each service user has a Burall InfoCare Unit in their property. The unit is battery powered for 6-12
months and does not need to be connected to a power point in the home. It is connected to the telephone line where there is one
available but, if there is not, then the unit is simply installed and used anyway. Also, the unit does not have a handset so the
Service User need not fear about hygiene factors or misuse of their telephone. If the service user wants to use the telephone while
care is being delivered then this has no impact on the care assistant recording their activities.
Every care assistant carries a Smart Card that doubles up as an identity and/or security card. This
card identifies the care assistant and allows a quick and effective method of recording activity. On arrival, the care assistant
inserts their card in the InfoCare unit to confirm arrival. They then have the opportunity to record travel time or mileage and can
also record any delay between actual arrival and inserting their card.
When their tasks are complete, they enter details of the care delivered during the visit. This may include any non-visit detail,
such as an aborted visit at a previous service user’s property, or that the service user declined to take a service etc. Where
telephone lines are available, the unit will send the data back to our Data Centre using 0800 calls.
Where telephone lines are not available, the smart cards carry the data to the next unit which is connected to a telephone, to
ensure that the data always gets through. All captured information is delivered to our highly resilient servers for processing.
The processed information is accessed, both in real-time and through many standard reports, via our secure
InfoCare.Live web server. In addition, it may be securely linked to the Council’s own systems for direct sharing with rostering
/ planning software and with financial / payroll services.
The InfoCare solution is suitable for managing in-house services and for ensuring contract
compliance of external care agencies. By establishing a
direct virtual link between the Service Users and Commissioning team or Head of Service, the system delivers prompt, accurate and
valuable information about the actual care being delivered and the quality of that service.
