National Homecare - IT Innovator Award

May 2006

The National Homecare Awards took place at The Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London on Saturday 6th of May and Burall InfoCare were sponsors of the IT Innovator award at  this inaugural event which was hosted by comedian Tom O'Connor.

The IT Innovator award is awarded to the home care provider who can best demonstrate the innovative use of information technology to deliver and maintain consistently high levels of service for end users and this year the award was won by Mark Thomas of Westminster Homecare.

In presenting the award, Lawrence Faulkner, Director of Burall InfoCare said "Burall are proud to sponsor the IT Innovator Award, but we know this business is not about the technology - it's about the people and the service.  That's why the judges wanted to see evidence of not just adopting technology, but in adapting it to improve the service to stakeholders."

Mark Thomas was able to show the judges how he had taken ordinary homecare monitoring software and add a feature which allows relatives of service users to see what care has been provided. This feature is similar to the RemoteReview function offered by the InfoCare system but was sufficient to help Mark beat the three other finalist who also demonstrated passion and professionalism in exploiting IT for their respective organisations.

Runners up in this category were Christopher Platt of London Borough of Hounslow, Russell Day of Oxfordshire County Council and Allison Horrocks / Lynne Howard of Wakefield Home Care.

The awards were organised by Ceretas (formerly the British Association of Domiciliary Care Officers, BADCO) to recognise excellence in homecare and to pay tribute to those who work within the sector.
