Burall FlexiTicket for Low Cost Smart Ticketing

November 2003

U.K. specialist ticket and solutions provider, Burall InfoSmart, is announcing the Burall FlexiTicket: a small-memory, short-life “smart” ticket for transport applications.

The Burall FlexiTicket contains the SR176 chip from STMicroelectronics, linked to a radio-frequency antenna. “As opposed to the conventional contactless smart card used in transport,” points out Michael Moorey, Sales & Marketing Director of InfoSmart, “FlexiTicket is not made of laminated plastic, but Ecoticket TM paper, supplied by Finnish company, Rafsec.” This makes it ideally suited for disposable applications, such as one-day passes.

It works in just the same way: the holder has only to show the Burall FlexiTicket to a contactless reader, to be registered as a passenger or allowed through an underground gate.

Contactless technology is advancing by leaps and bounds. In coming years, it threatens to replace the traditional magnetic-stripe ticket, not only in fare collection, but also in providing access to sports events and stadiums.

InfoSmart is a supplier to major transport operators, such as the Prestige project in London (formerly London Transport) and the bus and rail industry nationally and internationally. “This exciting product complements our range admirably,” concluded Moorey.
